He has worked in domains such as student administration, curriculum planning, handbook production, degree planner, student recruitment, enrolment, learning and teaching, assessment, enrolment planning, and academic performance. On these projects he has produced conceptual, logical and physical data models, data dictionaries, glossaries, thesauri, classification schemes and metadata repositories. He is highly competent in data analysis and design, data warehousing, data profiling, data integration, data governance and architecture and demonstrates the higher order analytic skills required to identify appropriate technology solutions for business problems. He is TOGAF and Prince2 certified and able to communicate effectively with both technical and business people. He is highly motivated and enthusiastic about enterprise architecture generally. He is a creative and independent thinker who works well with others and is highly regarded by his peers.
OBJECTIVES
Robert wants to develop his skills in business architecture. He is particularly interested in exploring how business insights can be derived from information using data analytics methods and in the data processing functions that would enable this.

WORK HISTORY
Enterprise Data Architect, University of New South Wales (2011 – present)
Robert was a member of the Business Solutions team at UNSW, where he contributed as an enterprise architect, solution architect and data architect. He worked for two years with the data governance directorate assisting in the development of a data governance framework, metadata management systems and data quality methodologies.
He developed and maintained conceptual and logical data models covering all major domains of higher education which provided a base for IT engagement with university faculties and administration.
His data models covered a range of business functions including Business Analytics, Performance management, Forecasting, Curriculum management, Human Resources, Student Records, Timetabling, Project scheduling, Customer Relationship Management, and Identity and Access management.
He is currently producing the architecture for UNSW IT Information management business case, and is the principal subject matter expert for this initiative.
Achievements
- Developed enterprise data models for the higher education domain using Erwin, MSAccess and Visio.
- Developed a range of project level data models, classification schemes and data mapping matrices
- Assisted in the development of data governance frameworks and initiatives.
- Produced data dictionaries, glossaries, thesauri and classification schemes
- Produced a data quality methodology
- Advised on information management policy.
Enterprise Architect, Department of Community Services (2006 – 2011)
Robert has been part of a small team involved in the progressive standardization of the enterprise architecture framework at DoCS; in the development of governance structures based on TOGAF and Prince2; and in the customization of enterprise architecture resources.
Achievements
- Developed and populated enterprise architecture meta models using MsAccess, and System Architect
- Constructed Data, Business and Performance Reference models
- Integrated conceptual, logical and physical data models within enterprise architecture framework.
- Advised on information management policy.
- Represented the department on inter agency ventures
Data Architect, Department of Community Services (2004 – 2010)
Robert developed and maintained both enterprise level and application level data models and provided advice on information processing and business analysis issues and data warehouse management and design. This role required higher order organizational skills, and an ability to integrate diverse perspectives within a coherent representational framework.
Achievements
- Produced and maintained enterprise wide logical data model, metadata repository and information models using System Architect, ER Studio, MsAccess and Visio.
- Developed meta-models for data design, transformation and process integration.
- Constructed glossaries, thesauri, data dictionaries and metadata / rules repositories.
- Mapped enterprise data models to Siebel industry and data warehouse models.
- Advised on ETL and staging area management and star schema design.
- Advised on data integration and data migration processes
- Constructed user documentation and procedures manuals, coding handbooks and data dictionaries for use by the information management branch.
- Represented DoCS on inter agency data exchange ventures using XML.
Data Architect, NSW Health (2004)
Robert worked for Doll Martin Associates on NSW Health’s Electronic Health Record project where he was responsible for data mapping, which involved building, maintaining and populating the metadata repository for the project. This role required the ability to organize and co-ordinate large bodies of information from diverse systems.
Achievements
- Mapped data elements for exchange of Electronic Health Records using HL7 messaging standards.
- Produced a mapping database to co-ordinate the target data model, over 30 source system models, and HL7 reference models.
Enterprise Architect, Department of Community Services (2001 – 2003)
Robert was engaged to produce a logical data model for the information management branch based on a set of conceptual models. This was part of DoCS Enterprise Information Infrastructure (EII) initiative conducted by Doll Martin Associates. Robert gathered and organized information requirements and measured the conformance of application development ventures against those requirements. This role required an ability to communicate effectively with both business and technical representatives and some degree of courage and confidence in the defence of an architectural approach to system development.
Achievements
- Conducted workshops on classification theory and entity relationship modelling.
- Constructed Enterprise classification scheme and logical data model, maintained enterprise architecture artefacts.
- Provided advice on information management and data architecture issues.
